Once again this evening I have the honor of serving my community as we face an uncertain and bleak financial future. Still, I have every confidence that our Mayor has lead us to this place with expert precision and sound judgment and every confidence that our City Council is pure at heart if not yet adept at execution.

Our first session is opened with a lesson on citizenship from Roman times: The word "democracy" (Greek: δημοκρατια) combines the elements Fdemos (δημος, which means "people") and Ukratos (κρατος, which means "force" or "power"). We are reminded that a citizen is a member of a state or nation who owes allegiance to its government and is entitled to its protection. With citizenship comes responsibility - thus I am here today, thus I was here yesterday, and will be tomorrow.

I sometimes wonder what my father would say if he were alive today - his daughter remembers his pleads for to her to turn on the news, if for just 30 minutes to view the world. She laughs and thinks she is he incarnate.

I'm so bored.....

We love our small town!
Last weekend we roamed the streets looking at old classic cars while I gave my NEW camera a workout. Boy I tell you, 4 to 14 mps is a mighty noticeable jump!

I read an article yesterday that said gas could climb as high as $12/gallon this summer - as I look at the history, I see it's not such a crazy thought. It's a crime.

14th Annual Non Profit Conference

What a day I had today!
Started early and attended the 14t Annual Non Profit Conference today - good stuff!

Lisa and I attended together and had the great good fortune to have lunch with a 70+ year old woman who has a life time of experience and is interested in mentoring us as we start our NP.
She is still active at the organization she and her husband founded: R.O.A.R. She shared many inspiring and cautionary tails.

I was especially inspired and impressed by the keynote speakers - what accomplished women!

The day ended with attending Lisa's first public hearing meeting as Commissioner Chair for Edmonds' Compensation Commission. The meeting held interesting conversation about the potential salary adjustments for Edmonds' elected officials - nitty gritty - more good stuff!

As I wrap up the day Mark and I are feverishly tap tap tapping on the key board, both saying that we need to STOP and go to bed.....so, I'll post more later.

Life is good

We're on vacation this week - enjoying our annual spring break trek to Arizona. The sun is shining, the sky is clear, it is glorious.
We've done more touristy types of things this trip, including:

Hiking the Sabino Canyon
Hiking the Pusch Ridge
Taking the Colosal Cave Tour
Sluicing for fossils
Adventuring the Water Slides
Golfing, golfing, golfing

And, of course we made art! Painted rocks, created mosiacs, made clay yard art and other creatures.

And, of course we swam, and swam, and swam, and finally swam some more.

Tomorrow we return to the damp grey Northwest. And, while I'm not excited about loosing this great weather, I am inspired to get fit. Lisa and I have found a great class at the gym and I'm feeling very energized!
